  • Going Bad - 1995 Pontiac Grand AM

Ive owned my grand am for 6 years and never had any real trouble until now. I just hit 90K miles and the engine is going to blow anyday now! There are metal shavings in the oil and I get almost no power when the gas pedal is pushed. Ive loved this car and its been well taken care of. So far, its required nothing more than routine maintainence- oil, brakes, tires, etc. However, my automatic locks do not unlock anymore, the headlights and blinkers work sometimes and not others, and one fog light is missing because the plastic casing is melted from the light. The exterior and interior are still in great condition.

This has been a very reliable car although there have been a few minor problems, I have had to change the front brakes and replace a belt, my emergency blinkers dont work my automatic locks no longer work either, and one of my fog lights is missing other than that I drive the car a lot and it had been very good i hardly ever have to put oil in it and it is excellent on gas mileage.

This car really seems like it could run forever. Its a 3.1L V6 automatic. It runs pretty well still, and can even provide a little excitement when accelerating. Overall even after all these years it has had no real major problems engine, or transmission related. However, a new transmission/ tune-up/ allignment/ tires would help bring this baby back to superb quality. Other than a few minor replacements here and there, i still know that i can count on this car for just about anything. Problem is that with the ridiculously low resale now, theres no use in even attempting to fix her up. Its kinda sad, but Im gonna have to get a new car next time she has a minor problem over 400 bucks.

Car has 97xxx miles on it, transmission makes a whining noise past second gear (after some research Ive determinded that other people have also had this same problem). Needs to be rebuilt or replaced. Quad 4 engine is has known problems with cracking. Both drivers and passenger side window motors had to be replaced. Hazards recently stopped working. Ive gone through three sets of brakes so far. Overall, Ive put more money into it than I bought it for used (~$4000) a few years ago. Now that the transmission needs to rebuilt, a $2000 repair, I think Im going to ditch it and get a new car.

I purchased as 2nd owner.I have had a few items that were a pain,no car is perfect but I maintain my cars and 105000 miles is current.I did have water from the cowling area and it took time to find it.Normal use items of discs, pads, shoes expected.Always O,L,filter@ 4000mi.Replaced carpet@ 10/09,fuellines,filter@12/09.Windshield and driver window regulator 01/2010. It is great in snow, quick at highway entry, rides steady for shorter wheelbase legnth. I hope to make 200,000 miles.

The crapiest engine that ones ever seen! ... 120,000 Kms, and its knocking left and right! ... I just did a tune-up at GM about 3-4 months ago ... (which cost me $800 Cnd), and its still knocking ... getting rid of it as soon as possible, and getting a HONDA! ... already have one a 1991 Civic, not one sqeek out of it!

  • Reliable fun car for the price - 1995 Pontiac Grand AM

my 1995 Grand Am was bought brand new 09/95. The olive green metallic color was beautiful, still havent found a car with that nice a shade of green. Overall the car was used to go back and worth 30 minutes on highway miles to work. went many long distance vacations in it ( above 400-500 miles) 2-3 times a year. The only major problem that the car ever had was the overheating problem that this car does seem to incur a lot Ive noticed. But mechanically it never gave me any other problems. admitting the car was ugly without the spoiler, I loved it Changed oil every 3K, kept it clean, and ended up having it 7 years at 168,000 miles. One of the best vehicles I have had, still miss it!

This year grand am had problems with the head gasket. Didnt find out until 162000 miles lucky i guess. No repair facility will touch the dohc quad 4 engine. All in all if yours is still running GET RID OF IT.
